Yellow Pages –Now There’s an App

Time was everyone had a copy of the Yellow Pages directory. They let their “fingers do the walking” hunting though the classified directory to find local businesses that provide the things they needed. That was before the internet.

YP AppNow most of us want to use our computers, smartphones and tablets to find local businesses and we want more than just a classified directory. The folks at Yellow Pages figured who better than the company that invented the classified directory could provide a Yellow Pages for the Internet Age. So welcome to the YP App.

The new YP App is way more than just a classified directory and while you will find it is a really good and fast way to find things. The listings are way more comprehensive than the paper edition, Not only do you get the address and phone number which, by the way you can click to call on your phone or save the details to your contacts. How cool is that?

I am in the middle of a kitchen reno and I was able to use the app to hunt down appliance stores near me. The listing also provides a Google Street View picture as well as a button to click for directions. In some cases the merchant page shows a list of the products it sells and in every case you can rate the merchant if you want to share your experience.

YP App gas prices

One of my favourite features in this day of exorbitant gas prices is the feature right on the home page that shows the prices of gas at various stations near you, click on the map for more detail. In this case it tells me regular is marginally cheaper at Fairview where I could save about a penny a litre. Since the app uses the GPS feature of your phone you can do this search wherever you may be in order to find the best deal on gas.

YP App Deals

Speaking of deals, another cool feature is the deals. At the bottom of your home page you will see an ad for a deal and an arrow to see more deals. It is worth a look when your are heading out to may save a few bucks.

YP App Restaurants

I found the restaurant searches especially valuable right now since our kitchen is shut down for renovations. I was able to search for nearby restaurants we may not have tried and picked one based on the reviews or we could click to the website and look at the menu…very handy.

The YP App is a great app for finding businesses near you. In addition you can search for people and there is a reverse phone directory. It combines the features of a bunch of apps and puts them all in one place tied together based on Yellow Pages more than hundred years experience compiling directories. Since it is a new app there are not all that many reviews but as YP App matures I can see this feature as being very important.

YP App is available for iOS and Android at the relevant store. Best of all it is free. Full details at
