USB Type-C Hub That Works

I have owned my MacBook for almost a year now and while the single USB Type-C port hasn’t been an issue, I have been looking for a hub that would connect more things to my MacBook. I have looked at a couple of possibilities but they all had some shortcomings..only USB 2 ports, HDMI ports that I don’t need and worst of all, none featured pass through charging.

Finally, at CES Hyper launched a hub that matched all my needs:

Hyper USB Type-C Hub

The Hyper USB Type-C Hub is Designed for the 12″ MacBook but, it also works with other USB Type-C devices like Chromebook Pixel and Surface Pro 4

  • It turns the single USB Type-C port into 5 ports:
  • USB Type-C (supports charging & 4K video)
  • SDXC
  • micro SDXC
  • 2 x USB 3.0
  • Slim & compact. Sits flush with the same thickness as the new 12″ MacBook
  • Available in 3 MacBook matching colors (silver, space gray, gold)
  • Aluminum enclosure

It allows me to hook up my backup USB drive and backup my computer while charging at the same time. The hub does however pass through enough power from the MacBook’s port to power my Seagate Backup Plus drive without external power. The SD drive port is perfect for transferring images from my camera..something I do a lot on the road. Transfer rates were not slowed down by the Hub and as a bonus it looks good in gold to match my MacBook.

Hyper USB Type-C Hub

If you own a 12″ MacBook then this is a must have device. It is available from Hyper’s online store currently selling for $39.95(a 20% discount). Delivery to Canada is a flat $10 so my landed cost in Montreal including exchange(Yuck) was just $73…good value for the money.

Thanks Bob. Just what I’ve been looking for when I’m travelling.
