We Canadians seem to be a weather obsessed people…even more so now that our all too short outdoor entertaining season is upon us. Everyone wants to know if it is going to rain and when. For a long time now I have relied on Accuweather for reliable weather forecasts. I guess it goes back to the time I spent some time at the company’s facilities in State College. PA.
if you’re looking for a way to get accurate and up-to-date weather information on your iPhone the AccuWeather: Weather for Life app will do the trick. You you will get push notifications when severe weather is forecasted. Navigating through the app is simple, you scroll up and down. The app opens with the current conditions and you can scroll down to expanded current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts for up to ten days. You also get a cute animation showing sunrise, sunset and the phase of the moon. Finally there are weather radar maps so you can track severe weather. The app supports locations all around the world so it’s ideal when traveling.
Truth be told most weather apps are now pretty good at traditional weather forecasts…the competition is now in the hyper local forecast. When will it rain in my back yard? Accuweather’s take on this feature is called Minute Cast. I will tell you minute by minute what precipitation to expect for the next two hours. I watched the results carefully over a 4 day period of unsettled weather and I was impressed..it was accurate to within 5 minutes. Really handy for knowing if you can get the burgers off the grill before it rains.
I found Accuweather: Weather for Life to be a useful app that provided all the weather information I needed in a compact app. It also features a nice widget for the Notifications Today screen and is also Apple Watch compatible. Best of all, it is a free download from the App Store. I did have one issue, I found the white on blue difficult to read under some lighting conditions especially outdoors. Accuweather would do well to work on this.
