tp-link Smart WiFi LED Bulb Review
Versatile and nicely priced
I was attracted to the tp-link LB130 smart WiFi LED bulb with colour changing hue because of its simple operation..no hubs or adapters needed. The extra WiFi bits make this smart bulb a little bigger and heavier than most but it fits most normal lamps.
Easy smart bulb setup
To get started, you just screw the thing in, turn it on, and pair with it in TP-Link’s “Kasa” app. Then you just have to follow the app’s instructions to connect your iPhone or Android smart phone via WiFi. That done, you’ll jump back into the app, where which will tether the bulb to your home network and you are done. You’ll be able to turn the bulb on and off, dim it, or change its color and color temperature using the Kasa app.
Versatile smart bulb app
The Kasa app is easy to use and provides a lot of versatility. In addition to the usual on and off functions you can set colour and schedules as well as checking the power consumption. Kasa also features a Circadian setting that varies the colour temperature and brightness throughout the day. I found it useful to set the mood of a room but didn’t see much more to excite me about this feature.
Listens to Alexa
While the app is useful, I preferred to control the bulb with my Amazon Echo. It was simple to setup using the usual procedure for setting up Echo smart home skills. Once set up I had all the control I needed with simple voice commands.
The tp-link LB130 Smart WiFi bulb is an excellent choice if you are looking for a versatile LED smart bulb with full control over light colour and intensity. It can be controlled by the Kasa app and Amazon Echo which makes this $40 bulb an excellent buy.
