Waterfield Zip Brief

The Perfect MacBook Bag

Once I opened up my new MacBook I knew that a notebook this elegant needed an equally elegant and lightweight bag to protect it on the road. For that I turned to my friends at Waterfield Designs and I wasn’t disappointed.

My choice was the new Zip Brief MacBook Case the folks at Waterfield designed specifically for the new Macbook. I chose the the Grizzly Leather and Waxed Canvas model…it is also available in Black Ballistic Nylon but I preferred the more casual but classy waxed canvas because it looks good with the leather trim and will get better looking with use. The Nylon handles are securely stitched to the bag and feel good in the hand. For those who prefer a shoulder bag the Zip Brief comes with a shoulder strap that is impressive with solid hardware and a non slip shoulder pad. On the front is a pocket that will comfortably hold a large smartphone. I was able to fit my iPhone 6+ and my Kindle Paperwhite.

The YKK waterproof zippers are easy to open with leather pulls and the Zip Brief opens on three sides making it great for airport security. Now if you thought this bag looks great on the outside you will be blown away by the interior. It is a contrasting brown suede material that feels like cashmere. The notebook pocket is well padded and soft and feels like a cozy blanket for your precious MacBook…it certainly isn’t going to get scratched in this bag. On the other side are two equally soft pockets for the charger, a portable hard drive and other accessories such as USB-C adapters. As well, there is room for some papers, a magazine or newspaper. Waterfield is able to cram all this into an elegant bag that tips the scales at a mere 635 grams.

I appreciated that light weight when I took it on a trip to the Provincial Capitol with several local Mayors to lobby for better commuter rail service. Its elegant design also attracted more than one admiring glance.

Thanks for the review! I was wondering about that color. You say that you purchased the Grizzly leather, but your pic looks like the Chocolate (versus the Waterfield website pictures). Is it actually Grizzly, and perhaps the picture just looks that way, or is it in fact Chocolate? Either way, what you have in the pic is great looking, and I’m making my purchase decision based on that look. Thanks again!

Yes, it is Grizzly. It gets better looking with wear and I love it. You won’t be sorry, it is a great bag.
